Dell Xps 420 Desktop Computer

LaserJet 5M printer will not work?

I just bought a Dell XPS 420 desktop to replace my old Acer Aspire desktop XPS. My old computer included a printer port old-fashioned in the back so I could print my LaserJet 5M (the printer is like 12 years). It worked great. Doesn't My new computer has the same slot, so I bought a Dynex converter with a head that printed on my printer at one end and USB on the other. Then I turn it on, select LaserJet 5M list of printers compatible with Vista, add it, and then go to print a test page. The printer is there, still showing the 'status' Ready, and doesn't test print page. When I select the printer when I print a Word document that has the symbol and name, but under the symbol says ERROR. I know printer is compatible with Vista and I know you do not have drivers for download (it worked on my old desktop Vista) so that is the problem?

Lemmon Hi do not forget that you have to go on the printer and make sure that the correct port is chosen and not LPT1 I think the problem is there. Let me know.
