Dell Xps Boot From Usb

I am building a new Dell Dimension XPS R450 PC millennium as OS, but can not seem to install 2000!?
My BIOS is Phoenix 4.0 release 6.0 in 1999 – maybe that's the problem. I also do not receive any serial device detected prescence message on startup, although it seems not make a difference is 220 MB RAM – can upgrade to 4.5 GB HD ATI Rage 126 graphics yamaha scard. all works ok I tried to install the network card PC does not. fine internet via usb (broadband), but they need the network card as the User will be connected to the main PC. P2 processor 450MHz. Any help gratefully appreciated! GRITM.
Hello, (ANS) Have you checked Microsoft's site for the minimum hardware requirements for installing and running Windows 2000. YES! your problem is definitely that: a) the BIOS is the old way of supporting the new features of newer versions of Windows, such as Win2K b) 220megs of RAM is too low to comfortably run anything very useful, except you can install a minimum of 512 or above, then I think your wasting your time here. c) with the price of new machines as low as £ 200 to £ 300 you'd be better off buying a new system or even building a new system. You can buy a bare bones machine companies like CCL Computers in Yorkshire for £ 200. ** I checked the site Pheonix BIOS to see if its still possible to re-flash or update the BIOS. Latest BIOS tend to support extended featues & OS later. Can? Is this possible? Hope this helps? Regards Ivan windows veteran, MCSE trained.
