What is the best hardware / software we need for professional film editing?

I need to edit a movie, really professional, and I wanted see the computer (Mac or PC) and what editing software should I buy (btw is my HDV camera). I already have a Dell XPS laptop with 2 GB of RAM, 250 HD and processor Intel Core 2 due 2.2 GHz, but do not know if it good enough for editing HD movies. I'm also quite a pro adobe premier, but I heard its not more widely used for the Pro edition (not good for HD). my budget is around £ 1500 Thanks
