If you're reading this article, you're probably tech-savvy on your computer. You probably even built it yourself. In Windows, there may be options that are not available in menus and require that you apply the Windows XP registry settings manually. Before doing so, you should think about backing up the Windows registry. The next step is the enforcement of tweak to your system. This article will explore how to apply XP Tweaks registry for your computer system.
The first thing you should think is: backup, backup, backup. You never know when something can go wrong. The way to do this is through export the keys that you are going to tweak. That way, you have a copy of the registry keys before making the change. I'm not going to go further with what you need to backup, but if you're interested, check out my blog on how to do this. The next step is to enforce the amendments to your computer.
There are two ways to apply XP registry tweaks. One way is to go to the registry and navigate to the key and change. I would recommend this if you is changing only less than 4-5 registry keys. It would be very tedious to have to change 10 registry keys manually. If you are changing more than 4-5 registry keys, then I would do it automatically in a file. Reg Here's how you do it:
Tweak Example: Clear the User Name to log on to PC
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE NTCurrentVersionWinlogon]
"DefaultUserName" = ""
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE NTCurrentVersionWinlogon]
"AltDefaultUserName" = ""
Step 1: Open Notepad "
Step 2: Copy the contents of tweak to the notepad. (Note that the first line says "REGEDIT4". This is important when you merge the tweak. If you are unsure about what should be here, want to export any key and edit the file. You should be able to find it.)
Step 3: Save As
Step 4: Double click or right-click and select merge to apply the tweak.

There are many adjustments out there and just do a search for "XP registry settings" in Google will yield many results. Just remember to backup the registry and apply it safely when working with registry tweaks for XP.
