My DVD-ROM is not working.?

I have a Dell XPS 420 computer with Vista 32x. My DVD-ROM is a DVD +-RW PLDS DH-16A6S. Recently I tried to write a DVD and my computer froze. I did a hard shut down and now my DVD-ROM will open and close, but only makes a sound when a CD or DVD is placed inside and do nothing. I found another issue like this and I tried uplug the disk, boot the switch, turn it off and turn it back, no luck. Also, I tried to connect the disk in the slot for another drive and no luck with that. There also seems to be no driver available or firmware updates available. I really do not want to buy a new DVD-ROM, is there anything I can do? Also, I just got this computer, with the unit a month ago. (I reallly think that matters much though)

Try this drive with another computer. If that fails, probably dead.
