eSATA performance question?

Here is my config; Dell XPS M1530 with Belkin SATA II ExpressCard. OS is Win XP Professional Iomega External Desktop Backup HDD internal hard drive to the external hard drive with imaging software unit questions.; The specifications for the eSATA card to say "up to 3Gbps" but my backup software is reporting on "400 Mb / s" without anything much happening on the laptop and the backup job set to "high priority". What performance should I expect this configuration? This sounds slow based on performance specifications. In addition, the host is controlled in the BIOS configured to SATA and not AHCI. Does this change has much effect on performance in this scenario, and the ExpressCard is agnostic to this configuration or would cause problems?

3Gbit / s is the speed of maximum theoretical transfer SATAII, and is only really addressed by solid-state drives (extremely expensive and not commonly used with eSATA). 400Mbit / s is fairly typical to any hard disk drive, really, to change various settings not really help at all. It's just the speed limitation of the unit.
