Dell Xps Gen 1 Laptop

Buying an external hardrive – USB 2.0 x IEEE 1394?
Hi all, I'm thinking of buying an external hardrive for my Dell XPS Gen 2 laptop. I want to do it in order to install games (more specifically, The Sims 2 and World of Warcraft) to the external so I can free up space on my internal disk. I have some doubts about to this: 1.) Did I see a performance considerably diminished, if I run games off the external hardrive? 2.) My laptop is equipped with USB 2.0 ports and one port 1394a. Would buy an external hardrive that crosses the IEEE is a better idea? Thank you so much for your time and help! I do not have an eSATA port, or I would choose to buy EHDD one using it. I go with the variety IEEE, thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
Hey, 1) In most cases, yes. It depends on how good your hard drive is external. (the higher the cache and rpm, the better the performance). But if you're comparing equivalent 2 external hard drives and internal (both are 7200 and 16cache) the internal hard drive will hit the external hard drive, for sure. 2.) Yes definitely. The IEEE 1394a port provides a much faster / better overall performance than the USB ports. Check out this site: http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:8Ve-HiJfUooJ:www.websters-online-dictionary.org/IE/IEEE% + 2B1394.html an IEEE 1394 + + + more faster than USB +% 3F & hl = en & ct = clnk & cd = 6 & gl = us Hope this helps.
