How Should I upgrade my Dell XPS Gen 4 Desktop?
I'm looking to upgrade my Dell XPS Gen 4, but need help to decide and find out what will work. I want to update the board power supply, fans, heat sink, etc … What do you suggest I should start doing this area of work a platform for serious games. I want high-end components of the line. I'm mostly concerned about compatibility issues so if you are well experienced in this area it will also help a lot. Thank you.
If your serious about upgrading from Dell, then start with a new motherboard. The mobo Dell does cut it for serious gaming. Then build a new mobo to get 8800GT or GTS and a good power supply 600-700 watts. If your using the same processor that you could get an aftermarket cooler but I found that if the stock cooler is installed correctly with good heatsinc a compound (Artic Silver), then they work very well. That is, if you do not overclock your CPU more than 20%. If you plan to do serious oclocking then get a new refrigerator. If your running XP, in then get 2 gig of RAM and low latency. If you can add a fan in front of the case, then do it if you can put two 80 mm fans at the bottom of the front, then do it (blowing). Next, place the largest fan that will fit on the back of the case (blowing out). (The new power supply must have two good fans on it). By placing this new equipment, and preparing for the future I think that as far as possible, as an SLI or Crossfire mobo and power supply 700Watt. Just have fun doing the update.
