If I use the Windows Vista CD to reinstall my Dell XPS will still work for the XPS if I need it?

I used the CD to reinstall my Dell XPS One in my Dell Inspiron laptop, it worked. But if something happens with the XPS still be able to use the CD for it? Are you sure?
