dell xps linux
Should I convert my old PC into a Linux machine?

So I'm getting a new iMac complete with Adobe CS4 in a couple of weeks. The question continues to be what I do with my Dell XPS 200. It's SO Windows XP is being phased out, and I have little desire to buy Windows 7. I am a graphic designer and I have noticed that many people in media professions are beginning to use open source software. I had the idea of turning my PC into a Linux machine and load it with open source software like GIMP and OpenOffice. I'm wondering if it could I agree to be familiar with these programs. Of course, it would probably be my interest in knowing the my way around the new Windows operating system, but it's so darn expensive and I'm hating Microsoft more and more every day. Should I go with Linux and what are their tips to make the switch?

Why not? We did this with one of our former win98 computers and has a lot of fun learning Linux. Tips would go to a program Linux is the main stream so that you can find the drivers you will need some of your hardware. We went with Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/

Finally got linux to work on my new Dell XPS M1710
