Should I upgrade the processor or video card?
I'm buying a dell xps studio 16 and am wondering if I upgrade to ATI Mobility Radeon ® HD 3670 – 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon ™ HD 4670 – 1GB $ 100 or if I should use that money to upgrade the Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo P8700 (3MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB) Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo T9550 (6MB cache/2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB) for $ 125. I will be using the laptop for games and study and will make a lot of multitasking.
The P8700 is already very good. Suppose there are only about 2% -5% difference in performance between the two processors. In practice, you wouldnt be able to differentiate the two. Thus, in this case, it is more profitable to spend $ 125 just to get a clock speed of 133 MHz higher. The difference in performance between the Radeon 3670 and Radeon 4670 is much greater. The 4670 would be anywhere between 40% and 200% faster, depending on what you are running. If you are a semi-serious gamer, you should get the video chip faster.
