Windows XP Problem with speed?

I just upgraded my Dell XPS 700 running Windows XP SP3. I have done upgrades that should make my computer speeds much faster. I went from a Core 2 Duo E6300 for a Quad Core Q6600. I also changed my memory from 1GB to 4GB. I also have a brand new motherboard. But I have a big problem. When I turn on my computer, it loads and loads Dell Windows. Once that is done to load windows it asks for my password. I type in my password and then enter it. My computer displays my wallpaper on the screen for about 1 to 2 minutes. Then, after starting to work through and displays icons and other things. How do I fix this? It's your problem? If you do not upgrade my components I make my system much faster than before? Usually after I entered my password the system loads quickly. Not now. Please help thanks.

As the guy above me said you upgraded your computer a little office to XP, may not even recognize some of your RAM. Clicking the screen where it asks for your password is any slower than before? If so it sounds like it could be a virus.
