Laptop restarts itself?

Only if my laptop is connected to a charger, when I close the lid, rather than go into standby or hibernation it restarts and then stays until I open it, give it time to complete the restart, disconnect the charger and then close it again. This is not a problem of heating. How can I fix this? I have a Dell XPS laptop, is a year old, running Windows Vista.

Change the setting the 'Power Option', you can change what will be taken by closing the lid. You probably have it configured to restart automatically when the lid the laptop is closed.
