Why, when I try to install Ubuntu, vertical lines appear in 3 / 4 of the screen?

I have a brand new Dell XPS 400. Shortly after the welcome screen and it carries this shows up and even when I tried to install Fedora Core 5.

whether your card is going bad or the setup files Ubuntu is messed up. Try uninstalling then install it again and if that contact Dell doing work and say you want a new computer should still be under warenty. Also try to install it on another computer to see if the computer is the problem
