How do I boot Windows Vista () recovery partition on a Dell laptop after installing xp on it?

A friend asked me to install XP on your Dell XPS M1330. I do not delete the recovery partition just in case. well only if you come around, he asked for a view back unit. I think it would just press F8 as usual and I would be able to perform partition recovery tool to put the image seen back on the hard disk. However, with my bad luck there was no option that allows me to do it. Does anyone know how to activate the tool of recovery partition after installing xp on an old laptop dell order?
