How important is the cooling system on a computer while playing high graphic games?

I wonder how important it is to keep your computer cool when you're playing a computer game that has high graphics requirement. When I'm playing a game that can slow down a lot when my computer hot? I would like to know when I buy my computer from Alienware, I'll make sure I pay a little more to upgrade my cooling system. I alienware I know it's expensive, but I heard good reviews about it, and people who buy alienware are almost always happy with it, so I do not mind paying extra to know that I I get a product that I'll be happy with it. I will not buy from any computer with discount retailers like ibuypower.com because they have a lot of negative criticism showing that there is sometimes the computers are not mounted correctly. So I do not mind paying extra for Alienware, because I know I'll be happy with it. So how important is the cooling system on a computer when you're playing a game of high graphics?
