Help with installation of sticks of DDR2 memory?

My PC Gaming children uses DDR2 memory. The 512 currently has two sticks installed in slots-1 and B-1. The manufacturer (Velocity Micro) said I could use a show stick to double the memory, but to make sure that I installed in slot 2. The two remaining tracks are marked A-2 and B-2. I tried both and would boot the pc and did not give a series of beeps. What am I doing wrong. The requirement of two channels have nothing to do with it? I must using two 512 sticks?
