Installing Windows XP from old laptop (IDE / ATA) the new desktop (SATA / SCSI)?
I have a 3 years. Fujitsu laptop age, 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4, 80 GB hard drive, 1.25 GB of RAM. I have only recently opted to replace it with a new desktop, a E2035 Velocity Micro. My problem is this: I used Acronis True Image to make a bootable floppy, and also for backing up my hard drive. That was the easy part. After loading these records to the new computer, I got an error message "0x0000007b". According to the base plates of MS, which recommend the exchange components of the new computer to match the old. I'm not in a position to do that, then that's why I'm looking for an alternative. My question is, how do go about correcting this problem? I had Windows XP SP2 installed on my laptop – the new computer has 320 GB SATA (SCSI) hard drive in it. Some out there found the same problem? Any suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all for reading this.
It can not be done this way. Here's why. When NTkernel based operating systems (win2k) is installed, the hardware of the system is that identfied (a process called list), and an number for each piece of hardware is logged in the system. Then, each time the system boots, it reads the system hardware and compares the values with the values stored in the registry. If they are not identical, you receive the message you received. Sorry, but you have to buy an operating system if you want to change. A word of warning, XP without service pack 2 will not load on a system with a SATA hard drive without loading the SATA drivers first. Units SATA came after XP and the driver is not on the installation disk.
